When Richard Hanson first received his offer from Army right - TopicsExpress

When Richard Hanson first received his offer from Army right after putting on a solid performance at the Army one day camp that netted him MVP cornerback, we reported that the cupboard is not bare at all when it comes to Armys current crop of cornerbacks. CB, Richard Hanson during his participation at Armys 1-day football camp However, even with the likes of seasoned veteran Chris Carnegie holding down one side and star sophomore Josh Jenkins, who has NFL like potential manning the opposite corner, along with incoming prepster, Kahlil Harper ... there is always a need to recruit top tier talent for one of the most difficult positions to play in all of football. With that in mind, July has been a prosperous month for the Black Knights coaching staff when it comes to receiving the pledges from quality corner talent. You have Jaylon McClinton and Markale Mosesleading the charge and on Monday, Hanson ended his recruiting process by giving the Army coaching staff a call to become the Black Knights 13th commitment for the 2015 class. The future Black Knight took time out from his vacation with his family at Myrtle Beach to speak with GoBlackKnight of his decision to play ball at Army and attend West Point. I just committed to Army last night and Im more than excited, declared 5-foot-10, 175 pound Hanson. This was around 9-9:30pm, but Im suppose to officially talk to Coach Monken [Jeff] later today when he calls me back. So, Im suppose to talk to him about it and tell him of my decision. But I committed to Coach Bateman [Jay] last night and then the corners coach [Orlando Mitjans] called me last night too. To be more exact, Hanson provided the play by play of yesterday evenings call to the Army coaching staff. My family and I had just returned from dinner, but during dinner I had been thinking about it a lot and told my dad that I wanted to commit tonight, the product of Prince George (Va.) Prince George High School. He said that if I really believe so, then go right ahead and do it. So I called Coach Bateman, he told me that he was excited, that they were excited to have me, he told me thank you and I told him thank you for everything. He then sent a text to Coach Mitjans and he then called me about 5-6 minutes later. He told me that he was really excited to have me and he said that Im making him better now that I committed. That made me feel good and my commitment to Army solid. Hanson readily admitted that the decision to say yes to the Black Knights had been lingering in his spirit since the day he sat foot on the grounds of the academy during June 28th football camp. Ive always had that in my heart and I felt like I was going to commit there, he added. But my parents just wanted me to think about it a little bit more and also talk to my cousin. I have a cousin that recently graduated from West Point a couple of years ago. I also talked to a couple of family friends and too see what their experience was at West Point. All I heard was good things about the academy. I come from a military family, where we have a lot of discipline in my family and were use to yelling, said Hanson, who laughed at his own comment. Getting prime for his senior campaign, Hanson said that he was relieved to end the recruiting process. Making my decision now its a big weight lifted off of my chest, he declared. GBK will have the breakdown of Hansons commitment and the impact his pledge will have on this seasons recruiting class, so stay tuned. Sent from my iPad
