When The Custodians of the Law Violate The Law; GEJ Indirect Campaigns. Pursuant to section 99 (1-3) of the Electoral Act : “For the purpose of this Act, the period of campaigning in public by every political party shall commence 90 days before polling day and end 24 hours prior to that day. “A registered political party which through any person acting on its behalf during the 24 hours before polling day“Procures for publication or acquiesces in the publication of an advertisement in a Newspaper for the purpose of promoting or opposing a particular candidates, commits an offence under this Act and upon conviction is liable to a maximum fine of N500,000.” Nigerians wake up every morning these days to see billboards reading Give Jonathan a second chance Others carry messages like , Vote Jonathan for Equity and Good Governance under the auspices and endorsements of certain organizations like Transformational Ambassadors of Nigeria (TAN), Jonathan Actualization Movement(JAM) to mention a few. Every day, Television networks in the country, even NTA aide in this constant breach of Electoral Laws by helping spread these campaign messages. Days ago, a rally was held where Anyim Pius Anyim, the SSG openly campaigned for Mr. President via the umbrella of TAN, showing Nigerians a register signed by millions of Nigerians endorsing GEJ for a second tenure. PDP and Mr. President can hurriedly describe these campaign organisations as mere support groups, but the truth remains that PDP and GEJ are incessantly breaking electoral laws by campaigning before stipulated time
