When a crowd of under-costumed teens shows up on your doorstep, - TopicsExpress

When a crowd of under-costumed teens shows up on your doorstep, welcome them. It’s a big group because they find strength in numbers. They’re not wearing costumes because they didn’t realize that they’d want to go–nor how badly. Give them big bars. Don’t tell them they’re too old. They already know that. Let them pretend it just isn’t so. I would add this goes for so many different areas, you just dont know. How many children will be at your door this year that are tall for their age? How many may have neurological disorders that complicate their behavior and they may unintentionally be rude? How many will have family trauma in their background and struggle with social anxiety? Or the kid with a laundry list of allergies who cant eat anything in your bowl and looks disappointed and either accepts a piece or declines because why carry around something you cant enjoy? How many will be dealing with issues far more complex than you ever have? You dont know, you may never know. But this much you know: they are people, people who are young and looking for a magical night of escape in their community. You can be a part of that for just a few hours, dont blow it. davisenterprise/forum/opinion-columns/what-you-need-to-know-about-6-foot-tirck-or-treaters/
