When a few months back my son Rajib Nandi opened a facebook - TopicsExpress

When a few months back my son Rajib Nandi opened a facebook account for me, I was very excited. That was my first introduction with computer. Previously I knew how people connect to old friends, relatives and family members who live in distant places. Though I was not comfortable with the internet and the keyboard, I started enjoying this slowly. Later when my son added to me a group called "Amar Uttarbango", I was so delighted, I can’t express my joy in words. It opened my window to North Bengal once again which I was missing so much after moving to Delhi. Though I admit that I was not very active but I started opening the group page and enjoying the posts and photographs of North Bengal and many other interesting posts. Later Smriti added me to another group North Bengal connections. I admit that I was little surprised to discover two groups that look similar to me with almost same group of people, but did not ask any question thinking that there’s no harm of two groups running simultaneously. Recently, I was added to another group @We Love North Bengal. These days, I was gradually becoming more active in facebook, almost become a regular visitor, and started clicking the like button, which I was not using so much earlier. I was enjoying my journey till very recently, when I suddenly discovered that I have been de-subscribed from the group “Amar Uttarbango”. Without understanding much, I ran to my son, to look into the matter. It seems as if he was not surprised, he informed me that its perhaps because he has left the group recently. I simply did not understand the logic. I look at all the groups in same eye. Sometime don’t even notice which group it is. I simply did not understand, how his leaving of a particular group is related to this action towards me. I understand only an admin can delete me from a group. I was very well aware of the people who are the admins of the group, a very reputed businessman, Kumar Narayan Chaudhury, an architect Kalikinkar Roy a school teacher Koushik Bhaduri, and a retired Bank executive Swapankumar Chakraborty, all from Siliguri. I am amazed to see that they have so much time to ponder over this and then decide to delete me a 73 years old woman to delete from a group. Amazing!!! I always see the pride among the people of Siliguri for the kind of development it had achieved… and now I got an example of their personal developments too. I question my self, this is the development they are proud of? Really? I would say, I feel pity. I feel pity that a place where I spent my entire life is progressing towards such a narrow worldview filled with dirt and narrowness.!!!
