When a friend asked me what my biggest challenge is, I replied: Running. I absolutely dread running, and have never successfully ran more than 5km in my life. IPPT every year is a struggle. With gout attacks and asthma acting up this year, I could barely hit the treadmill gasping for air and writhing in pain. So this friend gave me a challenge: Run. 42km - 2 half marathons, this year. And in return, he will donate, SGD $50,000, to my causes: Dog rescue, and in support of my religious work, to help my Guru (Khensur Rinpoche) fund his humanitarian work, and to help the orphans in his orphanage in Sichuan. Once I succeed in this, I will donate half of the money, to Save Our StreetDogs SOSD, and half, to Dorjee Bholin Buddhist Centre. This will be, without a doubt, the greatest challenge of my life. The first 21km is in 10 weeks. I have been trying very hard to train, without success, only managing a dismal 2km two nights ago. With clinic work, religious work, and animal welfare work, it is very difficult to find time. But it is time to get down to business. I only have 10 weeks, and I cannot fail - SOSD has been bleeding money recently from a string of sick dogs - including a Parvovirus outbreak. And Guru is in ill health, and has always been struggling for funds - because he gives everything he has, to help others. It is time, I do something back for him, after all that he has done for humankind, and animalkind. I will update my progress, as I enter intensive training over the next 10 weeks. Please wish me luck!
