When a friend told me to check Twitter this morning, I thought I would smile. Like Jay and Bey announced Baby #2 or something. But alas, here we are hashtagging another life. A few things before I go seek refuge in the house my grandparents built: 1. Americas sovereignty necessitates our complicity in its actions. He had a gun and pointed it. This was justifed. They are terrorists who threaten the safety of Americans. This is not torture. Stay. Woke. 2. We have yet to consider, even in these times, that Black people have every right to protect themselves from the police. We reject any notion that a Black man could be engaged in act of self defense and preservation because we only view them as perpetrators with no selves to protect. 3. The public display of dead Black bodies in the street is to reinforce, to the living Black bodies, that our existence matters only inasmuch as we accept our inferiority and dare never to consider ourselves human. 4. This sh!ts getting old, B. 5. Black lives dont matter. And that hurts to say. But this entire American project is built on us not mattering. And, because of that, we will always have hashtag memorials. 6. ...and the government shall be upom his shoulders.
