When a group of women get together to improve another womans life - TopicsExpress

When a group of women get together to improve another womans life - magic happens. This year as it is the 10th year for WWWW each board member has chosen a diva that inspires them. We hope these inspire you too - to get a group of women together as we raise funds for women and children in the area. Lea Jones Liddicoats Diva: 85 years ago in Brussels Belgium, Audrey Kathleen Ruston was born into this world. She was fortunate to be born into a family of means, her father an English banker, her mother a Dutch baroness. She began her education in private boarding schools in England, but that all changed with the beginning of the Second World War. To avoid the war Audrey’s mother moved her to Netherlands. However, the Nazis invaded the country, Audrey and her mother struggled to survive. The story of Audrey Hepburns early life really does have a legendary, movie-like quality. One of her brothers was a prisoner in a Nazi labour camp. As children, starving, they watched railway wagons go by, full of children, also starving. Audrey, still a teenager, danced to raise money for the Dutch resistance. She was forced to eat tulip bulbs for lack of food. These things created a strong character, something many actors never get around to acquiring. From her very first performance on film in 1948 as an airline stewardess to her last in 1989 as an angel, Audrey Hepburn withstood over forty years of artistic scrutiny. Today she remains the irrefutable personification of irresistible charm, grace, and dignity. Unassuming about her own massive celebrity status, Audrey certainly knew exactly what to do with it when the time was right. Always polite and slightly reserved in press interviews concerning her own life and career, she was unequivocally direct with the words she chose to detail the conditions and suffering of the children she met. If she was sometimes tentative and unsure when preparing for a role on screen, Audrey was fiercely unreserved in speaking for those who otherwise had no voice. As she herself said, “I feel so strongly that’s where it all starts, with kindness. What a different world this could be if everyone lived by that.” In 1988, Audrey accepted what she considered her greatest role as a UNICEF International Goodwill Ambassador. For five years, Audrey traveled to over 20 countries witnessing innocent children struggling for survival. She reported these conditions to world leaders, governments and the international media, detailing provocative, often gruesome details about millions of children and their families caught in the midst of natural and man made disasters. Audrey’s work on behalf of UNICEF has served to inspire many others to reach out and commit their time to improving the lives of the world’s children. On my birthday, January 20, 1993 Audrey Kathleen Hepburn gracefully passed away. Today, the Audrey Hepburn Children’s Fund continues her work to bring help and hope to children around the world by raising funds and supporting organizations with the health, well being and education of children as their central mission. I chose Audrey Hepburn for so many reasons. For her grace, for her courage and for the mission she chose in her life that so reflects the mission of Wild Woman Wise Woman, although on a much smaller scale, we hope to bring support to children and women in need. “God gave us two hands, one to help ourselves and one to help others” - Audrey Kathleen Hepburn References: Audrey Hepburn Children’s Foundation Website The Guardian bio – Audrey Hepburn Biography #wwwwDivas 10th annual fundraiser for #Kelowna charities Thursday Jun 19th wildwomanwisewoman
