When a kid enlists into the Marines, we have them write a statement of exactly why they want to be a Marine. Normally we would then send that letter to them when they are in boot camp to help motivate them through the rough times. However not everyone makes it to boot camp. This morning I came across a statement from an individual that dropped out. Below is an excerpt of the statement as I do not want his identity to be known. After reading it, I thought to myself… How does this kid feel now??? “The defense of our country and our freedoms is the duty and privilege of every citizen. The Marine Corps has a proud tradition of outstanding and patriotic service during peace and wartime. I wish to share in the legacy of this elite fighting force whether it is in actual war or peace keeping missions. My contribution to the Marine Corps will be to ensure the defense of the United States and the Constitution.” “The sense of pride I will gain from the Marines will be a feeling that nothing can surpass. I want to make my family proud while protecting them at the same time. They have already showed a lot of excitement for me and are very proud.” My question to everyone that gets this post is… How would you feel???
