When a person comes from hard legalism and encounters the grace of God, their first reaction upon encountering this freedom is to a season of sin. Why? Because they have been living under a system of legalism, and their sinful desires were never dealt with, rather they were only oppressed. When the fear and guilt have been removed, those behaviors find expression, and reveal the failures of the mixed gospel to really solve the issues of their hearts. When the liberty comes, and the oppression is released, that behavior comes forth, and people tend to have a season of sin. At this point, many people panic, and blame the grace message for giving people license to sin, when it is in fact, the mixed gospel that never dealt with the issues to begin with. The grace message has only dug up the dirt left by the mixed gospel and shone a light upon its failures. The answer is not to run back under Law, and oppress the behavior, rather it is to keep preaching this Grace message, and let the Holy Spirit deal with their hearts in the new freedom they have received. Remember, Sin will never be solved by anything you can do enough of, including trying not to sin. Sin will only be solved by trusting in the redemptive act of Jesus Christ.
