When a person loses their temper they have some form of physical reaction. They may tense their body, or suck in a heap of air, or shake their head, or when feel we feel our face go red or all of these reactions, or more. The point here is that this physical reaction can be used to stop us losing our temper. Our mind thinks very, very fast and with great accuracy at times, so we can "catch" that moment in our mind and train ourself to "STOP" and calm down. If we can take the time to try and notice what happens to us when we lose our temper then we can look out for it and then just as fast as we lost control regain it back and clamp our mouth shut and make an excuse (whether we are hurt, right or wrong or not) and walk out of the room and get some well needed fresh air and if possible a half hour walk, or even an hours walk depending on how angry we may have become. Calming down is a good idea and a brisk walk burns off physical energy, and fresh air is great to get calming oxygen to the brain. Breathe slowly in and slowly out while you walk. We may not always be able to get away but we can try to calm down and try to use this"trigger" to warn us that we are going to say or do something very silly and regret it. Self control of our mind and body are wonderful things. There is always an answer, always a way to personal freedom. Practice this often until you get used to it All the best from James M Sandbrook.
