When an artist mimics another artists work, what is usually - TopicsExpress

When an artist mimics another artists work, what is usually imitated is the artists style, not his or her concept. Copying an artists style reflects a superficial rather than a deep understanding because it is based upon physical forms rather than conceptual ideas. One reason that artists are able to explore big concepts over long periods is the time that they invest in building a solid knowledge base. Similarly, students need an adequate knowledge for artmaking if their exploration and expression of ideas is to be substantive and complex. Although an undeveloped knowledge base for artmaking often accounts for shallow results and loss of interest in projects, we often overlook the importance of stimulating this component of the artmaking process, instead, we maintain a constant influx of new media, techniques, and gimmicks to sustain interest.
