When an individual becomes mad, the problem is not just his problem. Madness was most probably the only way available to him in the context created by the family. The family itself was caught in a web of larger interactions... Free will certainly exists, however free will does not consists in being able to fly without wings, to dance with multiple sclerosis or to be well balanced independently of any traumas, lack of love or unconscious conditioning. Free will is only about the choices we can do, it may sometimes be restricted to the level of intention with very little power or even none at all... The same apply to countries. If Germany once became Nazi, its not for being Germany but because of a heavy context independent of Germany. All quiet on the Western front...
