When asked for a definition of great works of literature, Ben - TopicsExpress

When asked for a definition of great works of literature, Ben Okri, the eminent Nigerian writer, questioned back the purpose of reading, and why only reading, take for example watching movies or taking up any assignment. What comes out as an answer is a banal truth. Simply, "to finish"! And according to Okri, the great works of literature are those, going through whom, you never wish them to finish, and engulf yourself in its eternity. For this very reason, whenever I finish a novel by the cult magician Milan Kundera, a sadness grasps me with the realisation that the collaborative visit through the lanes of Paris and Prague, the lanes of philosophy and psychoanalysis, the lanes of personalised forms is finally over. Yes, finished reading his "Immortality" today.
