When asked to create an innovative youth program for SIFF, we figured that we could set the bar high and give our students only two days to make their films, thus the creation of the term SuperFly!” said Longhouse Media’s Executive Director, Tracy Rector. lrinspire/2014/05/22/for-immediate-release-superfly-filmmaking-encourages-youth-to-push-the-boundaries-of-digital-media/ What is SuperFly? SuperFly is a 36‐hour filmmaking workshop in which 50 young filmmakers from around the country work in five teams to storyboard, direct, shoot and edit a collection of unique stories. This year talented mentors such as Sterlin Harjo, Ben Mullinkosson, Adrian Baker, Deidra Peaches, Jake Hoyungowa and BC Campbell, will guide students to delve into fascinating Snoqualmie community‐based stories. The theme of this year is about an escape from reality, a departure from the daily existence. The films will be a platform for the students to introduce us to far‐out ideas and wondrous landscapes. Each SuperFly team has less than two days to research, storyboard, shoot and edit their films. The films premiere four hours after completion at SIFF as part of the SuperFly and Native Showcase Shorts Program screening Saturday, May 31st at 4:00 p.m.
