When asked what surprised him most about humanity, the Dalai Lama - TopicsExpress

When asked what surprised him most about humanity, the Dalai Lama famously said: Man surprised me most about humanity. Because he sacrifices his health in order to make money. Then he sacrifices money to recuperate his health. And then he is so anxious about the future that he does not enjoy the present; the result being that he does not live in the present or the future; he lives as if he is never going to die, and then dies having never really lived. In his book The Art of Happiness, the Dalai Lama also wrote: “So let us reflect on what is truly of value in life, what gives meaning to our lives, and set our priorities on the basis of that. The purpose of our life needs to be positive. We werent born with the purpose of causing trouble, harming others. For our life to be of value, I think we must develop basic good human qualities-warmth, kindness, compassion. Then our life becomes meaningful and more peaceful -- happier.” -Thoughtful dialogue noted in an article by the Huffington Post news organization.
