When asked what type of work I do at an Indian Hills home. I simple reply I assist individuals seeking a second chance at life to be self sufficient. Then they ask whats that? I respond I work with people returning from prison and jail And I hand them all a card, knowing that at least one of them will call me about a family member. Incarceration is hidden and not talked about among certain races, but it is exposed among African Americans. REENTRY 101: African American men are not the majority in prison, they are actually the minority. They are just arrested and convicted at a higher rate of the our total population.
