When asked whether all the killing left him scarred, left him questioning his humanity or his bloodguilt, again the sheepdog understands, the wolves must be stopped, and he has no qualms with doing the stopping: “I’m willing to meet my Creator and answer for every shot I took.” Every soldier has to tally the books of his own conscience. The process can be extremely soul wrenching and is a significant aspect of what we call PTSD. God will always be the final judge of all the earth as Chris acknowledged. But who can balance the books of their lives who have done nothing, who tolerate and say that it is because of their faith when all along it was because they were afraid, or even worse, because they wanted to let someone else bear the burden of doing what had to be done? I would rather walk among those with PTSD than those who selfishly tolerated. Every soldier who has been on the front lines carries a guilt in their heart because they know that they have destroyed someone who was created in the image of their Creator. They know that they owe their Creator a reason, a justification. In my estimation Islam is so purely evil that it is sufficient justification in and of itself to receive many bullets. Justice demands that they be eliminated from the planet. Mercy, however, triumphs over judgement and my prayer is that every Muslim hears the gospel and receives forgiveness from their true Creator. The heroes that are greater than the Chris Kyles are those who risk their lives to share the love of God with those who are taught from infancy to hate and murder them. The American Old West was not tamed by the gun, as Hollywood would suggest. The American Old West was tamed by the bible. I hope that the same can happen to Islam...though my hope has little to encourage it.
