When discussing the notion of withdrawing troops from Vietnam, - TopicsExpress

When discussing the notion of withdrawing troops from Vietnam, Presidential adviser Henry Kissinger had this to say: Withdrawal of troops would ultimately have two effects: For one, troops would come home to their families and cause a general feeling of happiness and comfort among the American people. They will become addicted to withdrawal like salted peanuts; The more that come home, the more that will be demanded by the public. Second, the withdrawal of troops would undermine the power base of the United States amidst growing tensions between us and Russia. Thats right. Kissinger basically said 1) bringing troops home will want people to want more troops home, and thus end the war.... and 2) because of (1), we will lose our national ranking in the world. Human Beings in Kissingers statement are the currency for obtaining world power. They are exchangeable, expendable, and most importantly...they have the capacity (not politicians) to alter the outcome of the war.
