When faced with a crisis, the first instinct of almost everyone is to go into denial, said reputation expert Davia Temin of Temin and Co. The longer they stay in that place of denial, the longer it takes them to put in realistic solutions to make it better, the worse the crisis becomes, she said. In this particular case, NYRA got over its denial before the crisis was irreparable. Whether they were nudged or shoved or put in front of a cannon to get them there, is not completely clear, but they did listen. You might think that was inevitable but we all know it’s not. I can quote many instances where people saw the solution but didn’t take it.
