When feeding raw bones to your dog for the first time, it is - TopicsExpress

When feeding raw bones to your dog for the first time, it is important to show how your dog suppose to chew it instead of scoffing it down, which can be dangerous. One important rule is when buying bones is to buy bones bigger then your dogs head. The softer the bone the better. Hard bones are a waste of time and money. Either dogs will not chew it cause is too hard or will bury it. I use lamb brisket bones, large chicken frames, beef brisket bone and mutton necks as they come large enough for a dog to chew but most importantly they a flexible softer bone. So how do you teach your dog to chew it, well the only way to do it, is by holding the bone in your hand while your sitting on the ground with your dog or sitting in a chair. This will teach your dog to chew it, crunch it and rip it apart. Only a few lessons will make the dog understand how to chew bones properly and really enjoy it. *If you arent sure about it, then I suggest you seek professional help :) Never give cooked bones as this is extremely dangerous. If the dog does not finish the bone, then you must remove them as this can also become dangerous as the heat and cold weather makes them dry and brittle over time. My younger Rottweiler had bone aggression and food aggression when he was younger, yes I got bit too. But that all changed when I held the bone in my hand while he was chewing it. I did this for a week. He has not had bone or food aggression for 13 months now.
