When frail humanity agrees in mans wisdom. At one time, the whole - TopicsExpress

When frail humanity agrees in mans wisdom. At one time, the whole Earth spoke the same language. It so happened that as they moved out of the east they came upon a plain in the land of Shinar and settled down. They said to one another, “Come, let’s make brick and fire them well.” They used brick for stone and tar for mortar. Don’t simply overlook these decisions and substitutions. Jesus contrasted the wise man who built his house on rock and the foolish man who built his house on sand. In our haste to accomplish something for and by ourselves we are prone to do it as quickly as possible. The granite hewn in the quarry and placed in foundations in India are set in place for one year before anything is built upon them. Could this be an important metaphor? Why would the Scripture make this contrast of brick for stone and tar for mortar? Why did Paul wait a year or two before returning to cities and appointing elders? Then they said, “Come, let’s build ourselves a city and a tower that reaches Heaven. Let’s make ourselves famous so we won’t be scattered here and there across the Earth.” It never occurred to them that the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob may have intended for them to be scattered here and there across the Earth. Their hearts were to settle down in that which was familiar and comfortable, and build monuments to themselves. God came down to look over the city and the tower those people had built. God took one look and said, “One people, one language; why, this is only a first step. No telling what they’ll come up with next—they’ll stop at nothing!” God knows our frame and what we are capable of. He—Father, Son and Holy Spirit existing in oneness—is totally aware of the power of agreement. Many good brothers and sisters are caught up and being carried along by the momentum of humanly contrived movements. It seems good to them because they believe that they are proclaiming an apostolic message. It seems comfortable because they are accustomed to the ways of men living in Babylonian cultures. It seems profitable because they are secured by the stability that comes with positions and titles. Yet, most of what they are building fits well into the prevailing culture and brings little requirement for repentance. • It fails to level the playing field • It protects the interests of an elite and hierarchal few • It fails to call people to discipleship and equip them for their God-intended destiny • It does not develop the priesthood of all believers to fill the earth with God’s glory • It preserves a place for a paying audience • It further fractures the body of Christ • It is not kingdom concentric “Come, we’ll go down and garble their speech so they won’t understand each other.” Then God scattered them from there all over the world. And they had to quit building the city. That’s how it came to be called Babel, because there God turned their language into “babble.” From there God scattered them all over the world. If that is what it takes to set my brothers and sisters free to pioneer a brand new model, I’m willing to learn a new language with them in the culture of the kingdom! Blessings Trev
