When government regulations meet a family with a special needs - TopicsExpress

When government regulations meet a family with a special needs son.... First let me say that, thanks to the grace of God I completely kept my cool. We had dinner at a new restaurant tonight out of town. As usual when we first arrived I went in to secure our table and let Sarah and the kids stay in the car until it was ready. I requested a booth as I always do, because it is very difficult to keep Colin his seat if Im not sitting right beside him. They informed me that due to the fact that thier booths were 6 inches higher is was against the fire code to set a high chair on the end of them. However, they would get the manager out to see if it was okay. I assumed the manager would add some common sense to the situation. I was unfortunately wrong in my assumption. The rules were the rules.... They seated us at a regular four person table and we quickly realized it would not work because I have to sit right next to Colin or he will be across the restaurant before I know it. At this point, we traveled back across the restaurant again to wait for our table. We finally we seated at a table that will work. Our server was excellent and the food was great, BUT thanks to the government regulations we will not be returning. Its sad when a manager is more concerned about regulations than serving a family that is already in an uncomfortable position. Know this, when a special needs family goes out to eat, they want to get in and out without making a scene. Sometimes this is not possible, but surely the least we can ask, is that it not be because of a lack of common sense and government regulations. Making a family wait, explain to what seemed the whole restaurant why you need a booth, then walk back and forth across the restaurant... All because you dont have enough sense to ignore a stupid code... Lets just say, we will be returning to our beloved longhorn steakhouse in Lagrange next Friday! They know us and make sure we get in fast and have the best table for our son.
