“When he came near the den, he called to Daniel in an anguished - TopicsExpress

“When he came near the den, he called to Daniel in an anguished voice, ‘Daniel, servant of the living God, has your God, whom you serve continually, been able to rescue you from the lions?’ Daniel answered, ‘May the king live forever! My God sent his angel, and he shut the mouths of the lions. They have not hurt me, because I was found innocent in his sight. Nor have I ever done any wrong before you, Your Majesty’ ” (Daniel 6:20-22). Daniel was thrown into the lions’ den because the jealousy of his peers lured the king into publishing a foolish law. The king, Darius, decreed that anyone praying to anyone other than him for the next thirty days would be thrown into a lions’ den. He was distressed that his decree caught Daniel in the trap set by the jealous governors. With no other option he had Daniel thrown into the den of lions that evening. The question Darius asked the next morning is a question men and women are still asking. “Has your God…been able to rescue from the mouths of the lions?” We still want a Deliverer who is powerful enough to deliver us. Daniel’s answer not only reassured King Darius, but brings hope and confidence to us. “My God sent his angel, and he shut the mouths of the lions.” In other words, “My God was able to rescue me.” The truth that we as believers build our lives upon is, “My God is able.” Pastor James Brown was taking flying lessons when his instructor said to him, “There is no position you can get this airplane into that I cannot get you out of.” God says to each of us, “There is no situation you can get your life into that I cannot get you out of.” We can answer the question the world is asking, “Has your God been able?” with a firm, “Yes, our God is able.” The God who delivered Daniel is our God, too.
