When i was a boy, i remember watching for the first time The Shawshank Redemption. In time, the film has become one of the most amazing and wonderful adaptations made by Frank Darabont, based on the novel from the autor Stephen King. But what truly impressed me was the beautiful work of the cinematographer Roger Deakins. In the movie, he uses a set of visual motifs to communicate the identity to the audience and instruct us which emotions we must feel or which places we must travel as we use our imagination. My favorite shot sequence of the film, is when the camera flies over the prison and we can see a impressive aerial shot from above and another sequence that remain in my mind forever was when Andy, the main character, is on his knees and letting the rain fall on him after winning his freedom. As a result, he received his first oscar nomination for his involvement in the film, but it was defeated by John Toll for his work in Legends of the fall. Ladies and gentlemen, i give to you, the photography of The Shawshank Redemption by Roger Deakins. evanerichards/2009/457
