When i worked at St. Johns and (to a small degree) at Woodcraft - TopicsExpress

When i worked at St. Johns and (to a small degree) at Woodcraft Rangers, I tried to push a lot of free play on my school aged kids. We had art, reading, circle time, academics like worksheets, book reports, science projects and multicultural studies (when you work at a Christian preschool, the kids get pretty bored with Moses and Joseph, so we talked about Pharoes and Egyptian culture and why Moses and Joseph were different) and stuff like that. But we also had free time to play board games, do art that they wanted, to color, to invent new versions of dodge ball, to play dress up, to invent new games (like Army Dogs), to just PLAY. There was reading time, but kids picked their own books. My room may have been messy, but I tried to let the kids learn, not just be taught.
