When is a mid-life crisis not a mid-life crisis? The uneasy peace which so rarely settles over a Solo Towers has finally been banished for the foreseeable future. It all started last week when the doctor told me I had to get a new job or risk rupturing a disc in my spine and never working again. Being a fairly pragmatic bloke I weighed up my limited options and told Mrs S that aside from washing machines the only other things I knew how to do were write and play gigs and I would have to look into how I could possibly make them pay and try my hardest to scratch a living for the four of us from that. This was met with....well, a not too positive response and the accusation that I was having a mid-life crisis. I told her I wasnt, but my back was. She said I just had to find another job no matter how rubbish it was. I told her at 45 I had the chance to do something I like for a living and as it would be probably my last chance to change, I would rather carry on in pain than take another shit job working for yet more twats as what would be the point unless I could improve our lot.... The black clouds are hanging low. Im back to work on Thursday. Is she right? IS this a mid-life crisis? Or am I just some bloke at a crossroads who cant go straight on and wont turn right on principle? Tough times ahead. Ah well. Stuff just happens doesnt it.
