When it comes to Hispanic population, more Puerto Ricans live in the U.S. than in Puerto Rico Pew found in their tabulations of the 2011 American Community Survey that about 4.9 million Puerto Ricans live in the 50 states and the District of Columbia. Comparatively, according to the 2011 Puerto Rican Community Survey, about 3.7 million people live in the island. A year ago, USA Today wrote about Puerto Rico’s “brain drain problem.” More and more young professionals have left the island in search of new opportunities in the States. With offers from organizations such as Disney and NASA, few have found it hard to say no.
