When it comes to adopting a dog and going through an application - TopicsExpress

When it comes to adopting a dog and going through an application process there are many things that we look at. Many people think that being able to offer a loving home is all it takes and in a perfect world that would be so. Sadly that is not all there is to being able to adopt Many of our foster homes meet a lot of our criteria for adopting, but are not in the financial situation to adopt or the dog they are fostering does not suit their them long term. This isnt about the adoption fee, or how loving a home is. Its about being able to afford continued registration, medical emergencies, and special diets if needed down the line. We also have to ensure that continued socialisation can occur (during foster some dogs need to be kept out of the community until their confidence grows, or so they can heal) and the ability to be firm in situations where it is needed. Fostering can bring heart break if you get attached, and we try to prevent this from happening when we can, but some foster homes just have a huge heart, and become emotionally invested in their foster dog. We do understand this, and we hate saying no, but at all times we must ensure that we have the best interests of the dog at heart in all our decisions. When hearts get broken, people tend to lash out and do or say things that they normally wouldnt do. I understand this and try not to take it personally, but when anger at me is directed in spite and affects PAWS Rescue, then I do take it personally. People can hate me all they like, but they should not take out their hurts on the dogs.
