When it comes to celebrating Halloween, I feel like the dilemma - TopicsExpress

When it comes to celebrating Halloween, I feel like the dilemma that many of us go through is that it IS a very fun time of year. It was something I looked forward to as a child, and now my kids really look forward to it every year as well. Its good to see people who can have fun with it. To me the only scary part is when people, either knowingly or unknowingly, go overboard on the aspects that glorify death. Even the word Halloween itself suggests the roots of the Christian/Catholic/pagan custom of praying for the souls of the dead. Halloween in the original dialects = Evening of the Hallowed (hallowed meaning holy, holy meaning saints). If you are unclear on whether it is a biblical practice to pray for the deceased, first I suggest a study of 1 Corinthians 15. Theres much more to it than this, but when you understand the meaning of the word, you begin to even hear it differently. And to clarify, my purpose for sharing these things is not to declare the rightness or wrongness of celebrating the day, or even the degree to which it is acceptable. I believe that is for each person to decide between themselves and God. I am not trying to persuade anyone one way or the other, just sharing thoughts and facts on the subject.
