When it comes to one of the worlds oldest Golf competitions I am very particular about the the correct referencing of The Open Championship. It is, after all, the official name of the competition and calling it anything else is simply incorrect. All the correspondence from the organisers of the competition (The Royal & Ancient Golf Club of St.Andrews) illustrates this. At no instance is the word British used. The equivalent would be calling the U.S Open the American Open, or The Masters the Green Jacket Society Tournament. When the word British is used by someone they are not calling the tournament by its proper/official name. Rant over :) theopen
