When last did your house or kitchen smell like home? Those wonderful aromas that waft through the house from fresh bread baking in the oven. The smell of freshly chopped garlic and ginger as the hot oil releases its magic aroma into the room. The heady vapours that rise from a tomato sauce that has been allowed to bubble slowly on your stove or in a slow cooker, and the scent of tender fresh basil leaves crushed between your fingers to release its fragrance just before stirring it into a hot sauce. Rosemary melting into a roasting chicken; buttery scones; cakes made with real vanilla; freshly tempered spices ground straight into the dish; the fragrance that wafts from a simmering pot – these are my treasured pleasures.
