When men were men and women were glad they were. My great uncle - TopicsExpress

When men were men and women were glad they were. My great uncle Raymond French ran a morgue while serving in the Army during WWII. Once the fighting ended, he and a small group of men would identify the temporary graves (shallow and marked with a stick), dig up the fallen men, and prepare the bodies for a long journey home; he sustained two nervous breakdowns during his service. He also sat in on the Nuremburg trials (where Nazis were tried for war crimes) and happened to be there the first day of German General Hermann Gorings trial. He chuckled, remembering the 101st Airborne Division (think Band of Brothers) sitting in the top balcony. They all stood up and started to clap as Goring was led into the courtroom in shackles. The judge threw every single one of them out.
