When my dad was dying in His own bed in His own home he gave me - TopicsExpress

When my dad was dying in His own bed in His own home he gave me three bits of advice that have suck with me through the years. Two of them I dont really say unless the situation calls for it. The one I want to mention is when he said, Victor, tu nunca tienes Que pedirle nada a la vida. Dios te a dado todo lo Que necesitas para hacerla en esta vida. loosely translated it would be Victor you dont have to ask anyone for anything. God has given you everything you need to make it in this life on your own. he hated food stamps and what they did to us as a culture. Thats where I get my conservative roots from. While I have never been the model son I do know that I nite make him proud by standing up and doing this all on my own. That said, today marked a huge loss for us as minorities. Watching Seattle pass a $15/hr law and seeing all the blacks and Hispanics clap for joy, to me and only to me and my son that will inherit my stand as I did my fathers, today I am ashamed to be a minority. I have NEVER had to use affirmative action in my favor and the countless amounts of white people that had to go look for another job whenever my resume was put on the table have never claimed racism. They shake my hand and go look for another job. Me or someone of my color ever claiming that they need help because theyre a minority is pathetic in my thoughts. Maybe we should have made better choices in life and should accept where we are now. I could have been a dreamer. I could have been a shooting star.I could have been a dreamer because dreams are what we are Get a grip people. Take your kids out of thoseeverybody wins B.S. little leagues. Go back to school and earn your 15 bucks an hour. How can we empower people if everything we do is with the collective in mind?
