When my grandson Brandon Cramer had his wreck on July 7, 2013 he was airlifted to LSU Medical Center in Shreveport, LA. He was there for a month and then released to Truman W Smith Childcare Center in Gladewater, TX. We worried so much because we didnt know how we would be able to go to Gladewater as often as we needed and wanted to because the expense of renting a motel room each time we went would end up costing a fortune. We figured he would be there at least a couple months before getting better and coming home. Wrong... How naive we were! Tomorrow a friend and I are going to Gladewater to get the camper trailer we have halfway lived in for the past year...not a month or two or three as we first thought but 12 long months of driving back and forth to be with Brandon. Brain injuries take time to heal...some more than others. Brandon has anoxic brain trauma as well as traumatic brain injury and strokes on top of that. He has a long way to go...there, Ive admitted it. I would rather it be my way and he would already be awake but I am a realist and know better now that Ive studied his health problems. Anyway, God is in charge! Anyway, back to what I was talking about before I started wandering...My youngest son BoJo doesnt say much...hes a doer. Without saying anything to anyone he went out and bought a really nice goose neck camper and rented a spot at a RV Park near Brandon...that camper has been more than comfortable for our family members as they traded out staying there. Now that we no longer need it, maybe he can move it up to North Dakota where he is working and he can enjoy it. He will never know how much we appreciate his kindness. Of course, I know where his heart is...Brandon was so close to his uncle Bo...he looked at him as a dad...a figure to pattern himself after. BoJo has spent many long hours taking Brandon hunting and fishing...even when he would have rather done something else...he gave in to Brandons desires. I know he would rather have Brandon around...pestering him and begging him to do this or that but he has done the next best thing...provided a way the entire family could spend time with Brandon at any time. For this we are truly thankful! I just left the hospital in Texarkana a short while ago and Brandon was sleeping after being given some meds to make him rest. He looks so lonely and alone but I think he knows that he has the love of so many people who pray for him daily, if not constantly. Brandon was terrified of doctors and hospitals...it breaks my heart to see that all he experiences now is what he was so afraid of! I pray that he is not feeling the terror now...that he knows he is being cared for...by doctors, nurses, family members...that he is peaceful with where he is because he knows we are with him....that we love him so very very much. Please keep Brandon in your prayers. I know getting him nearer to home will help him when he gets over this pneumonia. I just pray we can keep him from contracting it again...it is so hard on him...trying to fight off something so serious when he is weaker than a newborn kitten. Pray that God will strengthen him so that he can fight for his life as he would be doing if he were able. God Bless each of you and may you walk in the light of the Lord each and every day....and may your light shine on others that they might find their way to Him.
