When my son, Dylan Du Preez began playing rugby, I was not an active supporter of his participation as I had moved to Cape Town. After seeing the satisfaction my son would have after a hard-earned win, I had to start become more involved. Since he had moved to Cape Town, I have been privileged to watch my son be a part of good sportsmanship, camaraderie, and an amazing rugby team. I have always encouraged him to find the things that made him happy and he seemed to draw satisfaction and pride from his love of rugby. He has made close friends and pushed himself physically and mentally. He has developed leadership skills since he started playing under 9 for Haarlem Secondary as a team captain, ending off his Primary level as Best Sportsman of the Year 2013 under 13.I have seen the many benefits of rugby and thats why I felt so disappointed today. It was his last Game he played for Parklands College, being the only one that scored a try and putting the first points on the scoreboard as well. Eish, seeing my son so sad almost in tears as the team said their goodbyes to him, signing his shirt.... almost broke my heart. Today I would like to tell you Dylan, focus on the challenge and the opportunity without letting the risk outweigh the reward. Your next game will be for Bloubergrant High....Make them proud and let them see the jewel they have in you.Love you very much and Mom, Uncle David September, Martinique Du Preez.....we all so proud of you, you the best!!!!!
