When my stalker was more active, I was repeatedly told dont feed the troll, dont give him any energy, why do you waste your time on him?. As he has been active for approximately fifteen years, I heard it a LOT. But he wasnt just trying to silence me, he was attacking and attempting to silence a group of us, although he tended to address his attacks to individuals. Thats part of the point: it wasnt just hatred, it wasnt just stalking, it was intended to silence an entire group of people, and marginalize an entire spectrum of conversation. And every time we ignored him, every time we failed to band together in court and fight him, WE made him stronger and more virulent. While she is describing a situation solely from a feminism vs. misogyny viewpoint, the problem is not limited to that arena. And I remain angry that he never experienced any consequences for his actions. While I hope his silence is permanent, this time, the fact is, he could start up again in the next five minutes. No one should have to live with that kind of stress and uncertainty.
