When our class was graduating in 1973, one of my very best friends, Ms. Lynn Varnes was asked by our class to say the prayer at our baccalaureate service at Oakland Avenue Baptist Church. I remember sitting down and talking about this with her, and she declined to do it because her father was the minister and at that time, it was not an acceptable thing to do. As I sat in Oakland Avenue Baptist Church last night, so many times I thought of Lynn and I know she would have been so very proud of how far things have come in this world. They have a beautiful church, a nice gymnasium, a kitchen big enough to be able to cook for an army, and the hospitality of that small town church was exceptional! Lynn is just one of several angels the Wildcats have in heaven and sometimes last night I know I could hear her sweet laughter. Until we meet again dear friends..........
