When our objectivity and sense of propriety is driven by - TopicsExpress

When our objectivity and sense of propriety is driven by politics I couldnt help but feel a deep sense of concern for some of my compatriots who seem to only be able to discern right from wrong after viewing an issue from a tribal, political or religious perspective. Only a few days ago a large section of a certain circle of my Naija social media network was abuzz with news of the alleged criminal behavior of a certain individual (a facebook friend of mine) who was accused by another lady (not a friend of mine). They had both arranged to meet physically for some undisclosed rendezvous... from what I was able to piece together, the guy had multiple facebook accounts some with fake profiles and fortunately or unfortunately got himself mixed up on the role he was supposed to be playing.... anyway, at the end of the day, dude disappears with the ladys cellphone and she is however able to trace him and get her phone back with the help of other common friends because he hasnt been able to put his ducks in a row regarding the different identities he assumes. The story itself goes to show criminal behavior and ought to be condemned in the strongest terms which a handful of people have done. But the saddest part for me was the narrative from most of those strongly condemning him. They were viciously attacking what they alleged was his strong anti-GEJ antecedents, some even went to the ridiculous extent of rejoicing and giving testimony (on behalf of the president) that the God of Jonathan had caught up with him and exposed his hypocrisy.... and of course the obvious broad sweep about that his how all these anti-GEJ people are ...all closet robbers..... It was as if the very silly and condemnable act of this individual was enough to vindicate a whole president for every bit of ineptitude and cluelessness he has demonstrated since assuming office The narrative was no longer about condemning bad behavior, it was more about relishing the fact that a political critic had been exposed. I had to even ask one of the harshest critics, why he had to bring GEJ into the whole story, did it mean that it would have been less condemnable if the guy hadnt been a critic of GEJ? It is really sad if people who are wired this way continue to be those whose voices prevail when decisions of significance are being made.... Hmmm..... 2015 don dey around the corner. Make your choices with your head and not your emotions.
