When our parents commenced sleeping on separate floors living - TopicsExpress

When our parents commenced sleeping on separate floors living separate lives, my Sister Lurline & I, as youngsters at high school, were at a loss to work out how best to deal with it, basically we didnt know how. The long term stress created life long illnesss in both of us, bronchial in Lurline, psoriasis in me. Big angry red patches erupted over 80% of my body so as one could imagine, high school years werent pretty, I only just survived. * Dad was a good soul, a creative, insane pianist, woodworker, builder, giving & kind. He rebuilt my bedroom whilst I was away at my Godmothers during a school holiday. Basically he created a sound lounge as I spent most of my time in that room with the door closed, my own private universe where I could see Mrs Dickinson next door in her kitchen & garden from one floor up. Elderly, she lived alone, years later I realised how much she taught me, without ever having spoken with her. * In my new room, pride of place was a Telefunken valve radio, the exact same model pictured. Dad decided that would be my best connection to the outside world, he got that dead right. I came back home from Godmother Pats to discover what he created for me & sat on the edge of my new bed & cried. Turning the radio on for the very first time, I spun the tuning wheel & landed on Brisbanes 4BC. To that very second the opening chords of My Generation leaped out of that beautiful valve powered speaker. It was Feb 27 1966, I was 13 and I heard not just The Who, but my calling. * At that very point of time, in a very repressed Brisbane, my Canadian Father via a German radio & a British rock band, chartered my future... my Fathers insight basically saved me via the World that radio opened up to me. A world I am so truly grateful to, music, the one love that has & will remain a constant x
