When people think of Oregon, they often picture salmon runs, - TopicsExpress

When people think of Oregon, they often picture salmon runs, pristine streams and forests dripping with life. But, if the fossil fuel industry has its way, fracked gas will soon do away with that. A company called Oregon LNG wants to build a huge liquefied natural gas hub in the heart of the Columbia River Estuary, with increased barge traffic and 86 miles of stream-crossing pipelines. This gas is fracked gas -- it has no place in our state. To build the terminal, the company will dredge more than 150 acres and dump its waste directly into the Columbia River and ocean, smothering essential habitat for endangered salmon. The pipeline will also disturb 1,195 acres of threatened and endangered species habitat, 145 acres of wetlands, 20 rivers and 185 streams. We cant let this happen. This project will only worsen the climate crisis. The lifecycle carbon impacts of LNG are just as bad as coal, and when methane is fracked, piped hundreds of miles, supercooled to a liquid and shipped overseas, it is not a clean and efficient product. Act now to urge the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to deny permits for this project and keep Oregon free of LNG.
