When reliable judgements are needed, the instrument we must depend on is reason. Non-rational instruments, habits and hunches, and the likes are commonly employed , of course, but when a great deal depends on the judgement we make when we must decide how to act in complicated circumstances or determine what is true in ways that gravely affects others, Success is most likely if we reason the matter out.
