When rolling with someone who is better than you (or higher belt), - TopicsExpress

When rolling with someone who is better than you (or higher belt), you have to take this into account. Your PERCEPTION on how well you do may not be whats really going on. If you roll (as a blue belt vs a black belt) and only get tapped out 1 time during it, you need to realize the difference in energy expenditure. Blue belt output effort: 100% Black belt output effort: 20% Result: a easy light roll for the black belt and a perceived victory for the blue. Just keep this in mind when you do Jiu Jitsu. As you get better, your understanding of your partners output goes up. You know if you are making the other guy work. As a beginner (white/blue or a few years experience), you are unsure what it is. At the beginner level, you are only aware in what YOUR output is. It takes years of study to start to understand the unique relationship between grappling partners. Just food for thought. Keep humble. Keep focused and dont ask your instructor lets go at 100% unless you are at a skill level which youll be able to survive :)
