When structure trumps function. Worked on a client yesterday with various aches and pains, put her through a movement screen, and found all sorts of dysfunctions. However, nothing would stick because she had three major structural problems- a surgical scar in her lower abdomen, a severely sprained right ankle, and an injured left big toe. The ligaments in her ankle and toe were so stretched out, they were basically useless, causing dysfunction with every step. The scar was interfering with the neural network every time she moved as well. This is a job for prolotherapy, to fortify the ligaments, and to break down the scar tissue. Once these structural problems have been addressed, then the functional interventions will stick. KNOW WHEN TO REFER OUT.
