When strumming your guitar focus more on moving your arm in time - TopicsExpress

When strumming your guitar focus more on moving your arm in time to the tempo of the song rather than what pattern you play. Patterns are important for learning variety, however moving your hand in time with the groove of the song is more important. You will find that in about half the songs you strum you will move your hand 2 times to each beat (Down, Up) and the other half you will move your hand 4 times to each beat (Down, Up, Down, Up). These are the two basic “gears” of strumming. You aren’t hitting the strings of your guitar with every motion, but your arm is making the motions nonetheless. Listen to some songs you know now and see if you can identify which strumming approach/gear fits which song.
