When students plan and implement their own projects, they practice - TopicsExpress

When students plan and implement their own projects, they practice and develop crucial life skills such as: responsibility, meaningful decision making, accountability, problem solving, planning, patience, teamwork, leadership, cooperation, communication, giving/taking orders, good work habits, conflict resolution and respect. These skills will help them become caring leaders on and off the mats. According to Learning Indeed, a Report from the National Commission on Service Learning*, “In comparison with peers, students who engage in service-learning show less alienation and exhibit fewer behavior problems. Students who engage in service learning activities increase their knowledge of community needs, become committed to an ethic of service, and develop a more sophisticated understanding of politics and morality. In addition, studies have shown that students who engage in service-learning learn about career and communication skills, increase awareness of career possibilities, and develop more positive workplace attitudes than fellow students.” Community service benefits the community and our students – everyone wins
