When teaching someone how the body is interconnected its always - TopicsExpress

When teaching someone how the body is interconnected its always more powerful to feel it rather than tell it. An example: Someone has chronic lateral elbow pain that has not responded well to direct therapy and they are disheartened. I hate to see that in people who are suffering because I have been there myself. So I look outside the elbow for culprits. (Stop Chasing Pain…treat it but dont chase it) I look at the opposite side hip and foot in relationship to the elbow pain. Initially they think I am kinda nuts (I am but thats ok by me..more joy in life that way). So I have them do a little experiment to feel the connection. (Lets say the right elbow hurts). They stand and I give them a 5-10-15 lb weight (depending on the person) and tell them to raise the arm sideways to the height of your shoulder and hold for weight up 10-seconds. When it becomes too difficult or painful move any way you want to hold it up longer without bending the elbow. Observe them lean towards the left side putting more weight on the left foot and hip. If the arm hurts when raising raising the weight you will see them lean towards the left. Body is working with force transmission and patterning. Dispersing force. The Law of Irradiation. The body leans away from the load for stability. Makes logical sense. I simply follow where the body wants to go. It makes the connection to the hip and foot. Its smarter than me. :) Taking a moment to feel connections in the body carries powerful mojo in the healing arts. Another way to look at it. If you want to throw a ball with your right arm which foot do you plant on? If you want to pull something with optimal power on the right arm which foot/hip do you load up? Sometimes elbow pain is simply just that…elbow pain. Sometimes X marks the spot. But when it does not resolve from treating the site of pain (X), I think its our responsibility and duty to look elsewhere. What better way to discover the elsewhere than listening to the body? May the Force be with you...
