When the Great Depart (a tribute to my mentor, Dr Myles - TopicsExpress

When the Great Depart (a tribute to my mentor, Dr Myles Munroe) Sunday, 9th November 2014 has been marked in the history books as the day when Dr Myles Munroe, a great teacher, preacher, businessman, motivational speaker, author and coach departed from this world, having finished his mission here on earth. He died in a plane crash together with his wife, Ruth. Dr Myles Munroe is a person who opened the door for me into the world of thinking and purposeful living. In 2010, shortly after my graduation from the high institution, I first came across two of his books, Discovering Your Potential and Maximizing Your Potential. I also watched some video tapes of his teachings and my life has never been the same. From his thought-provoking teachings, I realized my life has a purpose and I needed to discover that purpose. He taught me that I have so much hidden and undiscovered potential that it will be my full time job to discover, develop and deploy that potential. He spoke about dying empty – having become all that you can become. He challenged me never to allow the graveyard to claim my treasures. He explained that sadly, many people go to their graveyards still loaded with unused potential. He lamented that there are thousands, perhaps millions of unwritten books, beautiful music that was never composed, masterpiece paintings that never hang in any art gallery, great business ideas that were never acted upon, inventions that simply died in people’s minds and many other treasures that are buried in various graveyards around the world. Dr Myles Munroe has had a greater impact on my life than all the professors I met in university. I am a great believer in education and I believe we need to ensure that as many as possible in our society should attain at least tertiary education. But I am also aware that most traditional education fails to help a person discover his or her true purpose in life. What Dr Myles Munroe did to me is priceless. He made me realize who I was, what I was commissioned to fulfil in this life, what I could achieve if only I spend enough time to discover and develop myself. He challenged me never to settle for mediocrity. He was instrumental in making me who I have become today, and who I hope to become. In life we all need teachers, mentors and coaches who are willing to guide us along the path to greatness. We need people who will challenge us to rise out of mediocrity and pursue success. We need leaders who will show us the way when we are lost and who will help us see our own potential. We need leaders who will believe in us and help us to light up the stars in our lives. Every person is born with the seed of greatness within him or her. But there are times we become so blinded by our own failures and life struggles that we fail to see the greatness that lies idle within us. Dr Myles Munroe challenged me never to be like millions of people who arrive on planet earth but fail to show up simply because they are hidden in the shadows of others. He challenged me that I was born an original and therefore I don’t have to die a copy!
