When the Lord saved me from my sin, eternal death and - TopicsExpress

When the Lord saved me from my sin, eternal death and condemnation, and gave me eternal life in His Son, He also put a new song in my mouth. I loved to sing that song then and now. Let me share that song with you and hopefully, it will help you to appreciate what God did for David in Psalm 18 and what great salvation He has provided us in His dear Son. The song is entitled: Love Lifted Me. I was sinking deep in sin, Far from the peaceful shore, Very deeply stained within, Sinking to rise no more; But the Master of the sea Heard my despairing cry, From the waters lifted me-Now safe am I. All my heart to Him I give, Ever to Him Ill cling, In His blessed presence live, Ever His praises sing. Love so mighty and so true Merits my souls best songs; Faithful, loving service too To Him belongs. Souls in danger, look above, Jesus completely saves; He will lift you by His love Out of the angry waves. Hes the Master of the sea, Billows His will obey; He your Saviour wants to be - Be saved today. REFRAIN: Love lifted me, Love lifted me, When nothing else could help; Love lifted me. I hope this hymn brings memories back to you as you look back to when the Lord in love and mercy lifted and delivered you from sin and destruction. Such memories should cause us to celebrate our salvation and to share Gods love with others. Now let us look at Psalm18: 16-19 where David rehearses his deliverance and gives the credit to God. God had delivered him from his great enemy. I believe his great enemy here is King Saul. God, Davids Rock and Deliverer, frustrated the plans of Saul at Gilboa ( 1 Samuel 31:1-4). In verse 16, the Psalmist says He SENT FROM ABOVE, He TOOK me, He DREW me out of many waters. These waters are not literal waters, but the challenges of life, frustrations, trials and temptations, persecution, the ridicule of the unbelieving world - the list is endless. Beloved, no matter how deep and wide the waters be, God will send from above to draw you out. (See Isaiah 43:1-2). In verse 17 David had a strong enemy who was too strong for him but the Lord delivered him. We too have a strong enemy who is too strong for us, but our Omnipotent- all powerful God will deliver us from him. He that is in us is greater than he that is in the world, so we are more than conquerors in Christ Jesus. Verse 18 His enemies strategized and had plans aimed against him. They seemed to be always ahead of him in his calamity and distress to destroy him, but God intervened. He says, ..but the LORD was my stay. He had God for his support. God will never leave us to ourselves, He will always be there for our support. Verse 19 God delivered David and brought him into a large place. It was a place of victory and safety as compared with snares and distress found in the places of ambush against him. God delivered him not because he merited it, but because God DELIGHTED in him. My friends, God delights in you, and so will continue to be your ROCK, STRENGTH,DELIVERER, BUCKLER HIGH TOWER and SUPPORTER. Trust in Him with all your heart and see what He will do in your life that you might be a blessing to others. God bless you. Shalom.
