When the US military coined the acronym VUCA, probably they did - TopicsExpress

When the US military coined the acronym VUCA, probably they did not know how far-reaching the impact of these four alphabets will be on the business world today. VUCA, short for Volatility, Uncertainty, Complexity and Ambiguity, is a business reality today, and impacts future and value creation in a huge way. While these elements present the context in which organizations view their current and future state, they often come together in ways that either confound decisions, lead to anxiety, or cause loss of productivity and possibilities. Can the business world look at newer, alternative approaches to decipher VUCA as a practical code for awareness and readiness? Can organisations welcome, appreciate and implement non-conventional thinking, to make sense in this world? We think so. Can Prototyping, Painting, MindMapping, Brainwriting, GameStorming help? Surely! Our Art-Based programmes on Creative & Innovative Thinking and Creative Problem Solving help participants address the same. To observe the world, assimilate the clues, interpret the abstract and associate to the reality. And communicate, collaborate, influence and execute. Through rigorous and structured Brainstorming. Developing embodiments and prototypes. Interpreting visual, auditory and kinaesthetic clues. We believe that the artist’s eye is a powerful tool to help in that. Wharton professor Jerry Wind noted in 2012 that as executives experience art, they can connect both with the work as well as with its creator to gain key insights. “A work of art represents a different way of seeing. The artist makes a choice about what to interpret, and how to communicate the message, and it is important to consider those choices.” (See more at: executiveeducation.wharton.upenn.edu/thought-leadership/wharton-at-work/2012/09/business-learns-from-art#sthash.fTHUi09S.dpuf) And Fortune magazine (December 21, 21012) pointed out that “like artists, (businesses) must cultivate creative habits to see the world afresh and create something new.”. The author Tim Leberecht went on to list 12 things business leaders and managers can learn from the artist. These include continuously striving for the new, becoming “humanists” with a sharp, discerning eye and a high degree of empathy, increase childlike enthusiasm for innovation, become more intuitive, develop the ability to deal with ambiguity, become holistic, interdisciplinary thinkers, thrive under constraints and limitations, develop passion and the ability to sustain criticism. (See more at: fortune/2012/12/21/what-entrepreneurs-can-learn-from-artists/) Our twin programmes help in developing the “artist’s eye” in participants. IdeaStorm - a programme on unfettered Creative & Innovative Thinking, helping participants explore their abilities, understand their environments and articulate their thoughts and feelings. Two days of suspending judgement, thinking with the hands, developing 3D solutions. The Missing Piece - the sequel - a programme that channelises that creativity and thinking to structured Creative Problem Solving. Based on an end-to-end 6-step process to focus on, make sense of, plan about, respond to and review work-related problems. Four days to transform the cliche’ “a culture of innovation” to a robust, proactive and dynamic platform. Tap in to the resources. Reap the benefits. Allow the most experiential of Art-Based methods help you make sense of the VUCA world. Get in touch, for details.
