When the great Gajdusek lived among the Fore people of New Guinea he saw that they were suffering from a strange neurological disease. It was hard to pinpoint, and genetic transmission was ruled out. Some scientists suspected cannibalism might be a factor, perhaps some pathogen was transferred. However that had to be ruled out too because the Fore cooked the bodies thoroughly before eating them. After all, they werent savages.
